10 questions with Chris Mayer

1. Where do you work?
I work at Express Scripts. It is a pharmacy company. I am a senior product manager.

2. How long have you lived in St. Louis?
I was born and raised here. I moved away for four years to Texas, but I have been back for about one and a half years.

3. How and when did you get involved with GenNext?
When I moved back to St. Louis, I was looking for a place to get involved. While I was away, I did Junior Achievement and volunteered at the YMCA, so when I moved back, I just looked at different organizations. I liked that GenNext had a monthly volunteer schedule, and that everyone else was close to my age and at similar stages in their lives.

4. What’s been your favorite GenNext activity or memory?
I like any of the activities that involve a lot of hands-on work. I liked working at the Foodbank, boxing and organizing. It’s rewarding when you can see what you have accomplished. I also enjoyed when we went to an elderly woman’s house and helped her paint, rake leaves and clean. She was very grateful for us, and that was great to see.

5. Why are volunteerism and philanthropy important to your generation?
Giving back falls on all generations. Our generation needs to step up to that task and embrace that responsibility.

6. Where you would like to see GenNext in five years?
There is definitely an opportunity for a growth model. It would be great to see the number of events and the amount of people increase so that GenNext would have a greater impact on the community.

7. What is your favorite winter activity?
It’s tough, because it’s so cold here. I hate the cold. In the winter I really try and spend as much time as possible with my niece, family and friends.

8. Who do you think should do the NBC Tonight Show, Jay Leno or Conan O’Brien?
Definitely not Jay. I’m not a big fan of either though. I like George Lopez. He might be good, but I don’t know if he’s ready for that yet.

9. What is the last song you downloaded on your IPod?
I think it was “O Valencia” by The Decemberists. I don’t buy a lot of music, so when I do, I’m pretty picky about what songs I download.

10. What is the country/city you would most like to visit?
I would say Guatemala, but I’ve lived there. I would like to go to Chile. Chile has mountains and oceans within hours of each other. There is also a lot of volunteer work that I could do there.
