10 questions with Kevin Byerley

Kevin Byerley1. Where do you work?
I work for Citimortgage in business analytics department. I have worked for Citi for eight years now.

2. How long have you lived in St. Louis?
I have been a Cardinals fan my whole life. You can’t ask me the high school question though, because I technically grew up outside of St. Louis. I went to Truman State for college, and I just finished up my MBA at WashU.

3. How and when did you get involved with GenNext?
I have been involved with GenNext for quite a few years. I got involved through a friend of a friend.

4. What’s been your favorite GenNext activity or memory?
I really enjoy the outside service projects. I just really like being outdoors. Not my favorite, but probably the most memorable activity was the April service project at St. Vincent De Paul. We were working outdoors, and I ended up getting poison ivy all over. It was pretty bad. I ended up having to cancel my birthday party because of it.

5. Why are volunteerism and philanthropy important to your generation?
I think our generation really wants to be something bigger than ourselves. Volunteering is a way for us to give back.

6. Where would you like to see GenNext in five years?
Of course I would like to see it grow. Create more opportunities to give back. As our generation gets older, I think there needs to be a GenNow, where we can bring our children and volunteer. I think it needs to evolve with our lifestyle.

7. What is your favorite pizza topping?
I think it would have to be BBQ chicken pizza. Although my favorite pizza place in St. Louis is Pi, and I get some kind of chicken basil pizza from there.

8. What was your first car?
My first car was an ‘85, 4-door, Chevy Cavalier. It had 160,000 miles on it. It was great!

9. What is the worst movie you’ve seen lately?
I pretty much self-select movies, so I don’t know that I’ve seen any really bad ones. I did see Extract, which is kind of a follow up from Office Space. I would say that was pretty disappointing.

10. Do you have any special holiday plans?
Not really, most of my family is still in St. Louis, so just stay here and go to family member’s houses.
