10 questions with Angel Colon
1. Where do you work?
I work at Enterprise Rent-a-Car. I’m an internal auditor and work at the corporate offices in Clayton.
2. How long have you lived in St. Louis?
On September 15 it will be four years. It’s definitely taken some time to get used to. It’s a lot different from home.
3. Where are you from originally?
I’m from New Jersey. I lived very close to New York, so it’s a lot slower here, but the cost of living is great.
4. What was your favorite thing about New Jersey?
Diversity. In four square miles, you could see so many different nationalities. That is the greatest part. You don’t see that very many places.
5. How and when did you get involved with GenNext?
It was sometime in November or December, around the holidays, and I was looking for an opportunity to volunteer. I found GenNext, so I joined.
6. What’s been your favorite GenNext activity or memory?
My best memories of GenNext are that they are all so different. Some are funny, some are interesting. They have all been unique.
7. What have you appreciated most about GenNext?
I think the fact that it gives young people an opportunity to volunteer, that they otherwise would not have access to. It provides options and opportunity.
8. Why are volunteerism and philanthropy important to your generation?
I think they are important just in general. When you “have” you “give.” Why not help those that don’t have what you do? It’s fun making someone smile, even though you may not always see it. It’s feels good to know that you’ve made a difference.
9. Where you would like to see GenNext in five years?
I want to see it keep growing, keep expanding. I would like more people to know about GenNext and its purpose..
10. Do you have plans for the Fourth of July?
I’m going to New York. I’m going to watch the Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks, then spend some time at the Jersey Shore and barbeques.
