Serving a Cause lineup

For the second year in a row the GenNext steering committee will act as guest bartenders in order to raise money for the United Way. For four Fridays, starting Friday, May 22, from 7 to 9 p.m., steering committee members will bartend at the Church Key (1111 Manchester, St. Louis 63111) in the Grove. All cash tips collected will go to the United Way.

May 22: Deborah Albrecht and Michael Lofton

May 29: Anna Gettemeier and Kevin Haar Jr.

June 5: Katie Yeker and Matt Schneider

June 12: Nicole Fischer and Kameron Murphy

Last year “Serving A Cause” took place across the street at the R-Bar (now Am Lounge). When former R-Bar owner AJ Miller moved to Church Key, he brought this dynamic fundraiser with him. Last year GenNext raised $2,200 over the course of five Fridays. This fundraiser is a great way to get out with some friends and support the United Way.

GenNext Steering committee members will be in groups of two and competing to see who can raise the most money in tips. In 2008, a heated competition broke out among the steering committee teams. In the end, the team of Anna Gettemeier and Kevin Haar Jr. were able to raise by far the most money. Their total was an outstanding $865, doubling the second place team’s total. As last year’s top fundraisers, Anna and Kevin will be back this year to defend their title.

Kevin has already started the trash talking, calling for a Brinks truck pick up at 9:15 p.m. While Kevin and Anna’s experience should help, three other teams look to top their fundraising totals. Regardless of who “wins” the competition, the end result is a great fundraiser for the United Way; money that will be used to improve lives in the St. Louis region. Whether you go to support your favorite steering committee members or decide to go every Friday, you’re sure to see many GenNext members. Just be sure to bring cash and tip well.
