Thank you from Annie Malone

From Annie Malone Center service project

Greetings!

Thank you once again for coordinating the volunteers for our Annie Malone Early Learning Center library project. It is greatly appreciated. It was truly a pleasure having the GenNext young professionals group come out and help us.

Best Regards,
Jahara N. Davis
Coordinator of Public Relations/Volunteers
Annie Malone Children & Family Service Center

Please pass on to the United Way GenNext volunteers that we are truly appreciative of all the hard work done yesterday. To say the least, it was a real surprise, the neatness and orderly way all the areas looked was truly amazing, and just to see the floor again in that room was exciting. We will work on obtaining books, shelving units and pictures that are appropriate for the room in the next couple of months. Again, please let them know how wonderful we think they are for the work they put into this project.

Thanks,
Debra

Name that movie!

“Wish me a happy Valentine’s Day when you call. That’d be… nice!”

The movie quote contest is back! Win a “Live United” T-shirt by being the first to name the movie this quote came from. Play fair — no using IMDB, Google or your movie-fanatic roommate. Submit your answer as a comment below.

Tie-breaker question: What’s the name of the actor/actress who said the line above, and what was his/her character’s name?

10 questions with…Matt Schneider

Matt Schneider1. Where do you work?
I work for Emerson. What I do - that’s a little harder to explain. I’m in a group called Corporate Technology and I work as an analyst for our chief technical officer. The first thing to know is that I’m not IT. My group manages internal research and development funding as well as an outside venture capital fund. We also help out with new product development across the organization. The best part of the job is the opportunity to evaluate new technologies and be forward-thinking about how it can be applied to innovation.

2. How long have you lived in St. Louis?
Just about a year. I finished up my MBA at Carnegie Mellon and found the job at Emerson. I was looking for something that fuses my background in engineering [Matt has a Ph.D. in engineering as well] with my MBA. I had previously worked as a research engineer.

3. Are you from Pittsburgh, then?
No…I claim Boise, Idaho, as my hometown. I was born in St. Louis, actually, then moved to Boise. I’ve bounced around since then. My family would come back to Missouri to see family (most are in and around Hermann), and being here now is a good opportunity to get to see more of my extended family.

4. How and when did you get involved with GenNext?
I was looking for new places to meet people and get involved, especially related to volunteering. I searched the Internet, and GenNext had just launched their new Web site. The organization looked like a good fit for what I was looking for. I’ve been involved with volunteering since high school, when I was involved in several different organizations. I’ve always enjoyed serving others. I’ve taken a few trips as well to serve those less fortunate: once with my church to build houses in Mexico, and another trip to New Orleans to help after Hurricane Katrina. I’ve always found volunteering is a good way to serve others and meet new people. Click to learn more
