10 questions with…Deborah Albrecht

Deborah Albrecht1. Where do you work?
I work at Scottrade as an application support engineer. I make sure that the applications run as the end-users want. I’m almost like a liaison between the developers and end-users. I’ve been with Scottrade for almost seven years. It’s been great — I started at the help desk and have had six different jobs here.

2. What drew you to the IT field?
I went to college undecided. I always had an interest in computers. I would help friends with theirs, work on my own. I found out that I could make my hobby my career.

3. Where did you go to college?
I attended UMSL. I wanted to stay close to home. I thought if I did want to transfer I could always move my credits. Once I decided on my major, I discovered UMSL had a good IT program.

4. How did you find out about GenNext?
I decided I wanted to get back into volunteering because Scotttrade had a program called Cash for Championships, which gives money to organizations that employees volunteer with. I figured it was silly to not be doing it. I looked at what causes I was interested in. When I was looking at the United Way Web site, I saw a link to GenNext. I was interested in the idea of volunteering with other young professionals. Click to learn more
