And by knockout, the winner is…

After four weeks of excellent charity bartending at rBar, Anna Gettemeier and Kevin Haar looked to close out the month on a high note this past Friday. They spent weeks watching and waiting, itching to step behind the bar and prove themselves the superior sud slingers. With the movie Cocktail playing on the flat screen and wearing his sunglasses at night, Kevin started the night off right by securing a $100 tip.  The rest, as the say, is history.

Two hours later, the smoke cleared and the powerful pair had raised $865, more than doubling the previous high of $419. While Kevin’s big talk was viewed with some skepticism, at the end of the night Kevin put his money (or at least other people’s money) where his mouth is.

After five weeks and 10 hours, the rBar fundraiser has raised $2,228 for the 2008 United Way campaign.  United Way’s GenNext group has raised more than any other charity who participated in Serving a Cause.  With such positive results all the way around, this could be an annual event.

Kevin and Anna spent weeks promoting their night and are more than willing to come back next year to defend their title. As Anna succinctly said, “I rock.” Next week Kevin will start sporting a championship belt to leave no doubt who the bartending king and queen are. But will be this a long-lasting monarchy or is a rebellion brewing? Looks like we’ll see in 2009.

Let the smack talking begin.
